App Passwords

An App Password is a provider-issued credential used to allow third-party systems (such as FAOS) to send emails through your mailbox without exposing your primary account password.

When to Use an App Password

App Passwords are typically used when OAuth is not available for SMTP sending, or when your email provider requires a dedicated credential for external applications.

Example: Google Account

App Passwords for Google accounts can be generated at:

2-Step Verification must be enabled before App Passwords become available.

General Creation Steps

  1. Sign in to your email provider account.
  2. Locate the security or authentication section.
  3. Generate a new app-specific password for “Mail” or for a custom app (e.g., “FAOS”).
  4. Copy the generated password (it is often shown only once).

Limitations

FAOS does not control your email provider’s policies, sending limits, spam filtering, or account suspension rules. Email delivery depends on your provider’s configuration and compliance with its terms of service.
